An
existing three-tiered Home Theater required substantial fast-track upgrade
to all acoustical materials, A/V componentry and furnishings to meet the
needs of its new owner. In addition to a graphics-grade video projector,
the project includes provision for 35 millimeter film playback in the
future through a pair projectors firing through twin optical portals framed
into the rear wall.
Acoustic treatment and speakers
(six Triad THX dipolar surround speakers and matching subwoofers) were
recessed into the side and rear walls and then concealed behind stretched
fabric. New left, center and right speakers (Wilson WATT/Puppies) and
subwoofer (Wilson WHOW) were specified into an extensively treated space
behind the Stewart THX video screen. Critical areas of the ceiling were
also extensively treated to suppress first-order median-plane specular
reflections from the front speakers for dramatically improved tonal and
spatial focus.
Located
directly behind the rear wall, the 400 square foot Control Room provides
an optimized thermal, electrical and mechanical environment for the Krell,
Faroudja and similar quality electronic components.
