Although
this new home was nearing completion when Keith Yates Design Group was
brought in, its owner was prepared to "do what it takes" to
get his dedicated Media Room to work in harmony with the audio/video system.
Our scope of work therefore included designing a new technical power system
for the room, overseeing the reworking of the HVAC system, specifying
all acoustical treatment and supervising its installation, selecting the
critical audio components and their placement, and testing, calibrating
and documenting the result.
One of the main challenges
was to reduce the room's natural reverberation in a way that would be
tonally balanced and therefore subjectively inviting-not a trivial undertaking,
given the very limited (2 inch) space available on the wall surfaces for
acoustical treatments.
The JBL Synthesis system forms
the core of the Keith Yates-specified audio system; 2 Runco DTV-991 projectors,
a Snell & Wilcox Interpolator and a Stewart THX microperforated screen
form the core of the Joe Kane-specified video system. Installation by
Sight & Sound, Sunnyvale, California.
